A finished bibliography page at the end of a school project file
A real page built by Redrafty from our own sample project. The school and names are placeholders.
In short

How to write it.

  1. The heading — BIBLIOGRAPHY, on a new page at the end.
  2. One entry per source you actually used: books, textbooks, websites, newspapers.
  3. The same order of details every time: author, year, title, publisher — or for a website, the page title, the site and the link.
  4. Sort A to Z by the author’s surname — or by the title when there is no author.

If your teacher names a style — APA or MLA — follow it. If not, keep every entry in the same pattern.

Tips

Do this. Skip that.

Do

  • List every source you really used
  • Write the full title, not just the website’s name
  • Sort the entries A to Z
  • Put it on its own page at the end

Don’t

  • Write “Google” or “Wikipedia” as a source
  • Invent books to make the list longer
  • Mix two patterns in one list
  • Forget the link for a web page
FAQ

Questions? Answers.

What is a bibliography in a project file?
The list of all the books, textbooks, websites and articles you used for the project — on its own page at the end.
Bibliography or webliography?
A webliography lists only websites. Many teachers accept websites in the bibliography; some want a separate webliography page — ask yours.
In what order do I write the sources?
A to Z by the author’s surname — or by the title when there is no author.
Can I just write “Google”?
No. Google is a search engine, not a source: write the page you actually read — its title, the website and the link.
How many sources do I need?
There’s no fixed number. List every source you really used — a short, honest list is better than a long one.
Bibliography or references?
School project files usually say Bibliography. College reports often use References — in IEEE, numbered in the order you cite them, like [1], [2].
