A finished acknowledgement page in a school project file
A real page built by Redrafty from our own sample project. The school and names are placeholders.
In short

What to write, in four parts.

  1. Your guide first. Thank the teacher who guided you by name — Mrs., Mr., Dr. — and say what they helped with.
  2. Then your school or college. The principal or head of department, for the opportunity and the lab, library or other facilities.
  3. Anyone else who helped. A lab assistant, the librarian, classmates, the people you interviewed or the company you visited.
  4. Family and friends last. Then your name, class and section — or the names of everyone in the group.

Keep it to one page — about 100 to 200 words. Write “I” for your own project and “we” for a group project.

Where it goes

The pages of a project file, in order.

Front pageCertificateAcknowledgementIndexYour projectBibliography

The usual order — if your teacher asks for a different one, follow your teacher.

Tips

Do this. Skip that.

Do

  • Name people with their titles — Mrs. Kavita Rao, Dr. Anil Kumar
  • Say what each person helped with
  • Keep it to one page
  • End with your name, class and roll number

Don’t

  • Copy a friend’s acknowledgement word for word
  • Thank people who didn’t help
  • Write about the topic itself — that goes in the introduction
  • Use colours or fancy fonts if your school asks for black text
FAQ

Questions? Answers.

What is an acknowledgement in a project file?
A short page where you thank the people who helped you with the project: your teacher, your principal or head of department, anyone else who helped, and your family.
How long should an acknowledgement be?
One page or less — usually 100 to 200 words in three or four short paragraphs.
Where does the acknowledgement go?
Near the front: after the front page and the certificate, before the index. If your teacher asks for a different order, follow your teacher.
Should I write “I” or “we”?
“I” for a project you did on your own, “we” for a group project — and then end with every member’s name.
Can I write the acknowledgement in Hindi?
Yes, if your project is in Hindi. The order stays the same: teacher, principal, others who helped, family.
What is the difference between an acknowledgement and a certificate?
You write the acknowledgement to thank the people who helped. The certificate is the page your teacher signs to confirm the project is your work — see certificate samples.
